Memoir

NAME: AMANDA JONES VAUGHAN
DATE:
JOB TITLE: EVERYONE'S INSTA GIRL CRUSH, OVER THE MOON CONTRIBUTER, VINTAGE ICON

Years ago, I was scrolling Instagram and stumbled upon someone who wasn't an "influencer" per se, but she had a distinct style point-of-view and her joy seeped through the iPhone screen. Instant follow, of course, and from then on, I've admired Amanda from afar for her dedication to vintage, open book and heart and epic wedding guest looks. An East coast mom to three boys (2/3 twins!), AJV epitomizes staying true to your style self. Her fashion pedigree runs deep, so she is well-versed in trends and brands.

That said, you know an Amanda ensemble when you see one.

Paisley perhaps? Bell-bottom trousers maybe? An effortless 'neck mess' stack? Whatever the signature ingredient may be, she honors her fashion DNA on the daily, which is in keeping with how she hopes people remember her...as you'll read below.

SHOW US ONE OF YOUR LATEST SCREENSHOTS. WHAT MADE IT SING FOR YOU?

The new LANDLINE exhibit at Turn Gallery is giving me a spring in my step and I hope to see it in person on my next trip into the city. Bernie Kaminski's work in particular is a joyful nostalgic treat.

On your Buy Again on Amazon.

Hu Kitchen Salty Dark Chocolate is a mainstay in our household.

A random iPhone note you have and its contents.

Quick notes from attending a conversation between Ina Garten and Laura Linney to promote Ina’s memoir. Amen to being more than a lifeless item on a shelf to please others when “building a brand”...

(unless we’re building a recipe, then store bought is fineeee!).

A color combination lighting you up.

The right, light, crispy shade of blue contrasted with a rich brown is nothing but classic yet always feels fresh, especially with early spring around the corner/finally here?!

Share a recent Instagram save.

AJV is a save sharing icon with a wonderful balance of beautiful, funny and inspiring content.

Like picking a favorite child! But I recently loved this from Francisco Risso, Creative Director of Marni.

Ok and this! Via @motheruntitled founder Neha Ruch

How do you remember things?

Working on remembering that I need to work on a better way to remember things. Lots of phone alarms and middle of the night panics right now…

Show us an open browser tab from today.

We’re pushing 500 tabs on my phone currently (including many a “Summer Camp Sign Up” page for my boys) but I am always perusing New Arrivals from LA-based vintage curator, Arcade Shops.

QUOTE YOU HAVE SAVED.

“What do women hold?

The home and the family.

And the children and the food.

The friendships.

The work.

The work of the world.

And the work of being human.

The memories.

And the troubles

and the sorrows

and the triumphs.

And the love.

Men do as well, but not

quite in the same way.”

-From “Women Holding Things” by artist Maira Kalman

Tell me about a memorable gift you've given or received.

Inspired by Amanda, this necklace was my first Mother's Day gift. Most jewelers can help you design one.

I gifted my mom a Miraculous Medal pendant necklace (which I was gifted a similar one by my Mother-In-Law) and since her unexpected passing, I now wear both my mother’s and my own every day side by side.

What do you want people to remember about you?

I hope that, no matter what, people always found that I have remained true to who I am and always made an effort to give others the space to be their true selves as well.

“Who I am” is very much in progress (and I’d like to think always will be),

but I hope “kind, positive, resilient, ever-evolving and real” make it into the quick summary.
