Memoir

NAME: Molly Duncan
DATE:
JOB TITLE: FOUNDER & EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF THE MEMO, MOM OF ONE & ONE-ON-THE-WAY

Allow me to further introduce myself and offer a window inside my mind and iPhone files.

I had my eye on Luke Edward Hall’s fabrications for Rubelli since they launched a few years back, and these drapes [in midnight green Astraeus] inspired the euro shams on our bed. Plus, who cannot be tickled by the ceramic corn on the cob on the coffee table books?

On your Buy Again on Amazon.

The minis are great for vacation!

These are, in my humble non-beauty expert opinion, the best pads for removing make-up.
It’s usually ordered with a replenishment of this micellar water for removal. Neither irritate or leave a single lick of mascara before bedtime.

A random phone note you have and its contents.

One is called Pearls where I include little bits of wisdom I stumble upon. Here are a couple I’ve pulled over the years..

“Basically the entire Tao Te Ching. One of my favourite quotes by Lao Tzu being:

‘To attain knowledge,

add things everyday.

To attain wisdom,

remove things every day.’

I feel like I spent my twenties adding everything on (success, acquaintances, clothes, advice) and I’m now starting the process of removing things to figure out who I actually am underneath.”

Emma Gannon

“Cooking changes your relationship with food. Instead of consuming something, now you’re making it. Meals become achievements, expressions, discoveries, and relationships.”

Michael Pollan

A color combination lighting you up.

I find blue and orange together, in all their many shades, highly underrated.

I'm fixated on these play shorts and pants by Mmoody kids in Brooklyn. As you can see, they sell-out quick so I'm anxiously awaiting the next drop. Or, I may just have to scavenge some fabrics on my own and commission a pair for my daughter.

It's just too much.

How do you remember things?

For tasks, I’m loyal to my any.do app. Otherwise, I keep things still needing attention in my inbox and a lot of iPhone notes for filing away recipes, grocery lists, baby names, gift lists –
the works.

Recipe you have written down or flagged in a cookbook.

An iteration of this saltine cracker candy. My mom makes them every Christmas,
and there’s nothing like finding them in the freezer for the first time after Thanksgiving.

Quote from a book you have highlighted.

“A good marriage is one in which each spouse secretly thinks he or she got the better deal, and this is true also of our friendships.”

Anne Lamont from “Almost Everything”

A gift you’ll forever remember receiving or giving.

An old guitar I got on Craig’s List and covered in photographs to hang on my best friend's wall. She was a burgeoning singer and works in the music industry now nearly twenty years later. As the ‘artwork’ came together I got increasingly excited about the thoughtful token of affection showing my encouragement for her talent with something you couldn’t pick up at the store.

What do you want people to remember about you?

That I loved to my fullest – my people, my faith, myself and my passions.
