SUBJECT: Cocktail watches -- the unexpected way to add vintage to your wedding guest look

I once read that formal outfits translate better when one element feels a bit undone.

Maybe it's your hair that's tossled with a ballgown and classic heels. Or perhaps the hair and ensemble are to the nines while the shoes read a tad casual. Accessories, of course, are another area to tinker with on the casual to fancy spectrum. I love the idea of layering costume jewelry onto an otherwise black tie look.

Today's memo provides an example of this formula; I'm imagining a bedazzled watch elevating a solid silk gown in a sportier silhouette. We're spotlighting wrist candy for weddings (or other formal affairs) in the form of (mostly) vintage cocktail watches. I always spy these at the jewelry section of estate sales and imagine the sophisticated lady sporting her occasion watch for a night out in the 70s.

The best part is: these by no means have to come with the wowza pricetag of name brand everyday watches.

A select few of these, like the above vintage Seiko, are more for eye candy inspiration. Same for the beautiful Buccaletti linked below.

Of course, these styles need not be reserved exclusively for only the formal-est of affairs.
