“What makes a look feel interesting and personal is the addition of accessories that feel slightly ‘off’ or mismatched with the vibe of the rest of the look.”

I'm taking genius stylist Allison Bornstein's 'wrong shoe theory' and extrapolating it to defend my case for wicker bags in the wintertime. Or raffia, straw, rattan -- you get the idea. I've come across the inspiration photos you see scrolling here and asked myself why these looks struck me. I concluded it's mostly the unexpected texture from the stereotypically 'summer bag.' Many include a Birkin basket bag, which I think pairs particularly well with an oversized coat. The larger totes I link here, however, would go great with a solid sweater dress. And it goes without saying, you won't need to stow these away come the spring and summer months.

I love everything about this outfit formula: PJ-inspired top & bottom + blazer + basket bag.

While not necessarily in the straw family, this crochet bag has the same unexpected effect to this December ensemble.
